Conclusion

In conclusion, the impact that sport has in the UK is massive. The reason I think that Sport has a massive impact to the UK us the amount of money that is brought in through sport. For example, the Commonwealth games and the amount of money it will bring in for the economy. Also the 2012 Olympics in London will bring in a massive amount of money for the UK. The money that is made from the Commonwealth games on Olympics can go towards new facilities in the future for the UK. In summary i believe that the Sport industry has a giant impact on society in the UK.

Legacy of the 2002 Commonwealth Games

The Commonwealth Games has had a big impact on Manchester which was where it was hosted back in 2002. The impact that the Commonwealth games had on Manchester was massive and a big part of sport. Facilities that were built for the Commonwealth games have gone to good use, for example the Velodrome in manchester was used for the bike races and now it is being used for the training the bike squad for the 2012 Olympics. They also used the Manchester stadium which is now the stadium to Manchester City Football Club. There may also be a sixth form college which is being funded by Manchester City. This is one of the outcomes that the Commonwealth games has made because if the Commonwealth games hadnt been hosted in Manchester then the sixth form might never of been built.

The impact on the economy isnt what they expected, because the games were hosted in Manchester, they did alot of work on their sport facilities, so much work that it has advanced and made sport in the UK bigger. Also the facilites has opened up more oppotunities for people to get jobs at these facilities. This is a positive benefit and a good impact for Manchester as it gives out more job oppotunitys for people.

Participation Rates in Sport
Different sports in the UK can have different participant levels depending on how many people particpate in that sport. The highest rated participated sport in the UK is swimming which has over 2, 350,000 particpants in the UK alone where as the second highest rated sport is Football with just over 1,850,000 participatins. Here is a graph showing the highest rated participant sports in the UK. It also contains a various amount of other sports which are played in the UK to give the reader a good idea about highest participated sports in the UK.
Due to these results more facilites for swimming have been created to gain more money from participants. there are over 4674 swimming pools in the UK alone. The growing amount of swimming facilites in the UK allows easier acess for people who want to go swimming and train in the UK. Other sports such as Fencing, Archery and Judo are the least particpated sports in the UK which shows there are less facilites for these certain sports in the UK as they are the least participated in sports.
The graph above explains the participation rates of our class to show how many of us play sports and if so which ones. By looking at the graph you can tell the highest played sport in the class is football which has 11 participants in our class. only 1 person in the class participates in swimming which shows that it is the older adults that participate in swimming as it is a sport which has no impact on the muscles so is a good way for adults to exercise if they dont have the muscles they used to have.

In 2010 there were 6702 health and fitness clubs over the UK and then in 2011 the number of clubs had increased to 7002 fitness clubs. now in 2012 there are 7220 fitness clubs. the facilites are increasing very fast which proves that more and more people are going to health and fitness clubs.

In 2010 the average attendence in the premier league was 13,283 and the amount of spectators in sport is going up each year as sport is becoming bigger and bigger in the UK.

Task 3: The scale and economic importance of sport in the UK

By scale, we mean how to measure the sport industry, and by that you can measure it by how many people are going to the 2012 olympics, or by how many sports there are in the world, or by how many clubs there are in a certain sport. you can also measure the scale of sport by the sport retail in the UK. For example the sport shops around the UK and how many customers they get or by how many tickets get sold a year.

The economic importance is the social and financial impact on the sport. Which means how much the sport earns and how many people enjoy participating in the sports. Socially can be people who enjoy playing the sport as a hobby or for exercise or even a job. Financially the sport can take in a lot of money from selling tickets or francise of the club. It also spends money on the media airing the sport games to get even more spectators which then leads to more money for the sport. Tourists also are a good way of making money for sport as people from all over the world travel to watch different sports. For example the 2012 Olympics attracts people from all over the world.

The type of providers the sport have in the UK are public, private and voluntary.
